Party Wall etc Act 1996

Your project may fall under the remit of the Party Wall etc Act 1996 and it is important that you understand and obtain the correct assistance at the earliest stages to ensure compliance and minimise delays to the project.

“The Act provides a framework for preventing and resolving disputes in relation to Party Walls, boundary walls and excavations near neighbouring buildings”. The act applies to anyone carrying out relevant work and stipulates that adjoining owners must be notified of their intentions.

The act covers a range of works including works to existing party walls or structures, new building at or astride to the boundary line and excavation within 3 and 6 metres of a neighbouring building or structure.

The above is intended as an introduction to the Party Wall Act – for more information please download the following guide published by the Communities and Local Government Department. Please note you will need to review this information and act accordingly.

Please do not hesitate to contact us to discuss your project or matters in relation to the Party Wall Act. Where a Party Wall Award is required we can assist and liaise with Party Wall Surveyors on your behalf.
