Contemporary home remodelling extension.

Upon returning to Wilmslow after working abroad for a number of years with teenage children, our client’s existing family home (which had been rented out for many years and had become tired) now didn’t function as they have become accustomed to and was felt too small for their needs. Hence a home remodelling extension was required

This Wilmslow property originally consisted of a small kitchen and three double bedrooms (1 of which was a small single bedroom) and a relatively small but wide garden. Our client had two teenage daughters and identical bedroom suites for each formed part of the architectural brief.

Hunter Architects utilised the width of the plot for our proposals and sought to create a home remodelling extension to the ground and first floor and improvements to the front street elevation. The project created a master bedroom suite and flexible open plan family room, featuring living space and kitchen to the ground floor giving better access to the rear garden. The new bedrooms feature vaulted ceilings, to maximise the feeling of space and separate en-suites.

A key component of the architects’ design was to ensure, internally, that the extension wasn’t apparent so all existing ceiling heights, floor finishes and details continued. With teenage children in the house a sense of open plan, connected spaces was balanced with the need for individual/ zoned spaces. As such, whilst there are no doors between the living and kitchen spaces a feature wall helps to keep these spaces separate, as well as providing wall space for furniture.
